Hello everyone, I'm Danny Kelly and I'm your host for The View from the Lane,

0:26.1

the Athletics, Tottenham-Hosburgh podcast on the show with me today. I'm delighted to say

0:30.6

of the Atlantic's Jack Pittbrook and Charlie Eccleshare. We're now in the middle of yet another

0:35.2

international break. So we bring you a mailbag special on today's podcast, answering questions posted by our subscribers to the athletic. Let's start off with a very important question, and it may take up the whole podcast, I'm not certain. It comes from Tom P, who has gone straight in, both feet up, studs showing, what is your favourite Tottenham-stroke North London pub?

0:56.9

My favourite North London pub is the Salisbury on Green Lanes,

0:59.9

kind of halfway between Manor House and Turnpike Lane Cheap Stations.

1:02.6

I think it's the best pub in London.

1:04.4

It's also not that hard to get to from Whitehart Lane.

1:07.1

So you just walk down the road towards Bruce Grove Station and take the 341 bus,

1:12.8

which kind of goes sort of southwest towards, towards Haringay. The Salisbury's amazing. It's,

1:19.5

it's a kind of big Victorian building on a corner. It's beautiful inside. It's, it's kind of big,

1:26.2

but still cozy. You know, it doesn't feel like a big kind of aircraft hangar. And they're great beers. And it's just, yeah, it's a very special place. So I would say that is my favorite pub near White Hart Lane is probably the Antwerp Arms. It's kind of community owned and it has a nice bit of grass outside you can sit on and a back garden. But yeah, in the kind of broader vicinity of North London, I'd say the Salisbury. Yeah, no, I mean, the thing is for me going to Spurs games, there's not normally that much opportunity because of, you know, you're having to stick around and do all of that. But I used to live in Finnsbury Park, which is vaguely closed. There are lots of good pubs there. What I really like is the

2:02.8

Brownswood, which is a bit smaller and kind of more hidden away. I prefer that to the ones,

2:09.5

although there are lots of nice ones in Stroud Green as well, Australia Green Road.

2:13.0

Yeah, and if you stand outside the Brownswood and look to your left, you can see that edifice that used to belong to the waterboard.

2:19.6

And I've often stood in the Brownswood and thought, how drunk am I, I can see a castle in the middle of London.

2:24.9

But in fact, it's one of those waterworks follies that they built in Victorian times.

2:29.1

That whole area does feel quite strange.

2:32.1

There's a lot around there that you wouldn't necessarily think

2:34.6

as Infantry Park.

2:35.8

It's really nice, quite like hidden gems around there.
