Chapter 10.

Now, the Lord spoke to Moses saying,

make two silver trumpets for yourself.

You shall make them of hammered work.

You shall use them to call the congregation and to break the camps.

This is a practical purpose, right? Obviously, we don't have loudspeakers, sound systems, megaphones. So when Moses wants to call everybody together

to say something to him, how is he going to do it? Or when he wants to let him know, we're going

to break camp. How do you send out a signal? This is late Bronze Age technology for sending out a signal

to a whole bunch of people. That's a trumpet, right? That is... Like a campfire? No, it's a big horn. You let out a

big loud horn blast and everybody knows, oh, we go over to this spot when we hear the big loud hornblast.

And then Moses can give the instructions, whether it's break camp or whether he has something

else to say from the Lord, they will know when they hear the trumpet.

And so they're going to make two of them.

They're going to make them from silver.

This is because these are sort of permanent.

You're probably used to seeing Shofar that's like a literal horn, like a ram's horn that's being blown into.

Those aren't exactly durable.

They're not going to last a huge amount of time, especially when you're making and breaking camp and traveling through the desert, the wear and tear.

So the idea is these are specifically for this purpose. They're sending out a signal that's a signal really from God that we're breaking camp or God is calling everyone together. And so we make them out of precious metal. We make them permanent. We set them apart for this purpose. They're not going to be used for other things. They're not going to be used for horn concerts. They're not going to be used for other things. They're not going to be used for horn
