Millions of Americans are on the verge of losing access to a crucial food assistance program,

as money for SNAP benefits runs out tomorrow because of the government shutdown.

President Donald Trump has come up with what he calls the nuclear option,

scrap the Senate filibuster, eliminating the 60-vote

threshold needed for passing legislation, which would mean only a simple majority would

be needed to pass the funding bill. His post on Truth Social late last night has set Republicans

scrambling, many of whom have publicly opposed this idea. Just take a listen to what Senate

Majority Leader John Thune said about it a few weeks ago.

Supermajority requirement is something that makes the Senate the Senate. And honestly,

if we had done that, there's a whole lot of bad things that could have been done by the other

side.

Since one party rarely wins more than 60 seats, people have argued that the filibuster encourages

compromise and makes it more difficult to carry out massive partisan reforms.

Now to Michigan, where the FBI says it's thwarted a potential terrorist attack.

In a post on X, FBI director Cash Patel said the suspects were allegedly plotting a, quote,

violent attack over Halloween weekend.
