Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani

has filed for bankruptcy in New York

after a jury determined he owed nearly $150 million

for the claiming two former Georgia election workers.

As NPR's Miles Parks explains, Giuliani says,

and the filing is net worth is significantly less than that.

In the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing,

Giuliani estimated his assets to be worth between $1

and $10 million, and he estimated that his liabilities are between $100 and $500 million.

The filing comes a day after a federal judge ruled that

Giuliani must immediately pay Wandriosha Mais and her mother Ruby Freeman for

spreading baseless claims about their involvement in election fraud. The two women testified last week in federal

court how those election lies ruined their lives.

Giuliani, a former Trump campaign attorney and former New York mayor, declined to offer any

disclosure of his finances as part of those core proceedings.
