The Mind Administration is welcoming a decision by Israel to open up a second aid route into Gaza. The news came after a visit by

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, as NPR's Michelle Kellman reports.

Sullivan was in Israel to talk about ways to get more aid into Gaza and to encourage Israel to

transition away from high-intensity combat to a more targeted operation that

would safeguard civilians. That's according to spokesman John Kirby.

I think there's a general agreement that a transition to lower intensity operations obviously

is going to be an important next step here.

He wouldn't give any timelines. Kirby says he's heartbroken that Israeli soldiers mistakenly killed three Israeli hostages in Gaza.

He also expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of an Al Jazeera cameraman who was

killed while reporting on a bombing at a school.
