President-elect Trump is nominating Rodney Scott to lead U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Scott served as chief of border patrol during Trump's first term and under President Biden.

Trump also tapped Caleb Vitello to serve as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.

Vitello is the assistant director of ICE's Office of Firearms and Tactical Programs.

The president-elect is promising to deport millions of people who are in the country illegally.

Trump also says he plans to significantly cut the federal government.

House Speaker Mike Johnson spoke to reporters about

plans for the Department of Government Efficiency or Doge yesterday. We need to make government more

efficient, and that is what this whole objective is. It's what the Doge effort will be about.

Doge is not a department, but rather an unofficial advisory body. Forecasters expect to see a rebound in

hiring in the monthly jobs data out this morning. NPR Scott Horsley reports some of that change

reflects the end of the Boeing strike and better weather in the southeast. Analysts expect today's

report will show that U.S. employers added somewhere around 200,000

jobs in November, a big pickup from the October tally, which showed only about 12,000 jobs added.

October's figure was depressed by the Boeing strike, which idled around 40,000 workers,

and by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which sidelined many more.

Looking beyond those temporary factors, the pace of hiring has generally slowed in recent months,

although employers continue to add jobs month after month.

Analyst will also be watching the unemployment rate, which was a low 4.1% in October,
