Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Nore Ram. In one fell swoop, the Senate today

approved more than 400 military promotions that had been on hold for months due to a protest

maneuver by Senator Tommy Tubberville.

Ultimately the Alabama Republican failed to convince the Pentagon

to stop reimbursing service members for travel expenses related to abortion care.

He relented this afternoon.

A months long battle and precious little to show for it.

Tupperville's protest began in February and held up more than 400 promotions.

It drew criticisms from lawmakers of both parties who appeared ready to change the rules to work around him.

Even in defeat, the senator remained defiant, blaming Democrats for his holds.

They could have promoted these people a long time ago, but because of an illegal policy that they

pushed on the American people, we had a lot of people that did not get promoted.

Tupperville said he'll still object to four-star general's promotions.

The State Department says it will revoke visas and bar entry of any individual involved in undermining peace and stability in the Israeli occupied

West Bank. The new policy is aimed at Israeli settlers who attack Palestinians.

Dozens of Israeli extremists are expected to be put on a visa ban list.

Their family members may also face restrictions.
