In Gaza, the humanitarian situation is growing more dire.

The area is 2.3 million people are struggling to find food, clean drinking water, and electricity.

Israel cut off power to Gaza's main grid a week ago and hospitals are coping with thousands of wounded people and generators that are running out of fuel.

Health officials say patients' lives are at risk as mediators struggle to get Egypt and Israel to allow aid in and let U.S. and other nation's citizens out.

This is Israel prepares for an expected ground attack in Gaza.

President Biden has pledged support to Israel, but he is also warned not to occupy Gaza, saying that would be a mistake.

NPR's Maralaisin has more.

I don't think he's tempering his support for Israel, but this is a volatile situation that could get out of hand.

And it's also not clear how long or if Israel can actually eliminate Hamas. That's their stated goal.

We don't know how long it will take or if it's even possible.

The Israeli defense minister told the U.S. Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, that this is going to be very long and very tough.

There will be a lot of casualties.

NPR's Maralaisin reporting, meanwhile, the European Council, which has condemned Hamas for its attack on Israel, is meeting tomorrow morning on humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza.

Former President Donald Trump campaigned for the Republican presidential nomination in Iowa today, on the same day, a federal judge in Washington imposed a partial gag order on him on his 2020 election interference case.

Iowa Public Radio's Clay Masters has more.

The gag order bars Trump from making statements targeting prosecutors, possible witnesses and court staff.

Trump tells supporters gathered at a county fairgrounds he'll fight the order.
