Millions of people in 11 Florida counties are under evacuation orders ahead of Hurricane

Milton's arrival along the state's Gulf Coast. Emergency managers warn people

thinking about staying put that they were probably not survive the storm.

National Hurricane Center Director Dr Michael Brennan

says some coastal communities will see storm surge up to 15 feet.

It's not just the water, it's not going to be filling up like a bathtub. This is water that's going to violently be pushed on shore from the Gulf of Mexico with destructive wave action on top of it. And you're going to have structural damage to buildings.

Some buildings will wash away.

Brennan says people who fail to heat evacuation warnings

will not be able to get out once Hurricane Milton comes to shore.

Meanwhile, cleanup continues in Asheville, North Carolina and other areas that were devastated

by Hurricane Helene just two weeks ago.

Former President Donald Trump secretly sent COVID test kits to Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the early days of the pandemic.

That's according to a forthcoming book by legendary journalist Walt Woodward.

Vice President Kamala Harris is citing that anecdote to slam her opponent,

as NPR's deepest shivaram reports.
