Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Spear.

President Biden now says 11 Americans are known to have been killed in the weekend terror

attack on Israel.

In his NPR's Tamer Keith reports that he said it's also likely Americans may be among

the hostages being held by Hamas.

In a statement, President Biden said he has directed his team to work with their Israeli

counterparts on the hostage crisis, including by sharing intelligence.

Here's National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.

The truth is, we don't have a solid idea of how many total are on the count of four

while we've got an idea, but we don't know where they are.

So I can't say definitively that we know that Americans are being held hostage.

That said, we have to accept the grim possibility that some are.

Biden concluded that the U.S. and Israel are inseparable partners, and that the U.S. will

continue to show the world that Americans are unwavering in their resolve to oppose terrorism

in all forms.
