Lebanon's health ministry now puts the death toll from the last two days of Israeli

airstrikes against Hezbollah militants at 558.

Officials say more than 1,600 people have been wounded, and PR's Ruth Sherlock has the latest.

The Israeli military says its fighter jets have

dropped approximately 2,000 munitions in 1500 strikes on targets it says belong to

Hezbollah in Lebanon. The airstrikes have hit in the south and east of the country and there have been

limited strikes in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

The bombing campaign has caused thousands of civilians to flee their homes.

Some slept in their vehicles last night on the sides of roads

after discovering schools and other places the government had opened as shelters were full.

Hezbollah has continued its strikes with dozens of rockets fired against targets in Israel.

The Israeli military says the majority of the projectiles were intercepted.
