An Israeli Air Strike has hit a convoy killing at least four people in the Gaza Strip.

They were part of a humanitarian aid group delivering medical supplies and fuel to the region.

NPR's Jane Arraf reports Israel says it believed the group had been taken over by militants.

Anira is a U.S.based aid group working in Gaza.

It said its unarmed convoy was carrying food and fuel

to a United Arab Emirates Field Hospital when it was hit.

It said that workers killed in the strike were Palestinian.

And here it said it had coordinated the route with the Israeli military.

It said after leaving the border crossing, a vehicle with four community members

traveled ahead of the convoy to make sure the road was safe.

Israel's military said in a statement it launched the strike because the men were carrying weapons.

Anira said there had been no warning of the strike given and it was continuing its investigation.
