Former Vice President Mike Pence is, once again, defending his actions on the day of the

deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol building.

NPR's Windsor Johnson reports Pence's remarks come a day after a grand jury investigating

the January 6 insurrection indicted former President Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn

the 2020 election.

Speaking to reporters in Indianapolis, Pence said he repeatedly resisted pressure from

those seeking to stop him from certifying the results of the presidential election.

Sadly, the president was surrounded by a group of crackpot lawyers that kept telling him

what his itching ears wanted to hear.

And while I made my case to him, what I understood my oath of the Constitution to require the

president ultimately, you know, continued to demand that I choose him over the Constitution.

The former Vice President added that anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should

never be president.

Pence has considered a key witness in the case brought by special counsel, Jack Smith,

due to his knowledge of events leading up to the insurrection.

A Pittsburgh jury has decided Robert Bowers will be sentenced to death for killing 11

worshipers at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018.
