Healthcare providers in Alabama are suing to prevent

press execution for helping people access out-of-state abortions.

In Pierce W. Eliot reports to new federal lawsuits against the state's

attorney general and local district attorneys seeks an injunction against

criminal charges for what lawyers say is constitutionally protected speech.

Staff members at two women's clinics say that since abortion became

almost entirely illegal in Alabama, they get calls about where patients

can go to end their pregnancies legally. But a new lawsuit filed by the ACLU

says the clinics have been afraid to provide answers since

Alabama attorney general Steve Marshall suggested that offering help

to get out-of-state abortions could result in criminal conspiracy charges.

A similar lawsuit was filed by a group that provides funding for people to

travel elsewhere to access abortion. Marshall's office says he will vigorously

enforce Alabama's laws protecting unborn life,

including any providers who conspire to violate them.
