Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Louise Kivone. In the state of Georgia, outside of

Atlanta, authorities say a manhunt has resulted in the death of a suspect in a mass shooting

that left four people dead. Alex Helmick of Member Station W-A-B-E in Atlanta reports.

Authorities say Andre Longmore was fatally shot as he was being taken into custody and

that a sheriff's deputy and police officers were injured were trying to make the arrest. Longmore

was on the run after police identified him as the suspect who shot and killed four people

in a small city about 40 miles south of Atlanta on Saturday. He was found in a neighboring

county near the subdivision where authorities were investigating the four separate crime scenes,

conditions of the officers were not released. Officials have not yet released the names

of the victims or identified a motive. Friend P.R. News, I'm Alex Helmick. Long lasting triple

digit temperatures are sending people to the ER with heat-related illness and injury. People

are being encouraged to limit time outdoors in the state of California, although more than 100,000

people there are experiencing homelessness. From Member Station K-Q-E-D Vanessa Roncania reports.

It's expected to hit 112 degrees today in the Central Valley City of Fresno. People living

on the streets here stay cool any way they can. They know which restaurants give out ice. They

douse themselves with water and seek shade under trees or overpasses. 61-year-old Steve Speckman

has another strategy. You ride the bus over and over? But this weekend he's made it to a cooling

center. Thank God we have this. Older adults and those experiencing homelessness are at higher risk

for heat-related illness. Fresno is expecting triple digit heat for at least another week.
