President Biden says he's asked for an independent investigation into the assassination attempt

on former President Trump in Pennsylvania yesterday.

Speaking from the White House this afternoon,

Biden said he would share the results with the public,

and he also says there's no place for violence in America.

And Pierce Deepa Shivaram has more.

Biden says he spoke with Trump, and they had a short but good conversation.

He also extended condolences to the family of the victim who was killed.

The president urged people not to jump to conclusions about the motive behind the attack,

and he said the country needed to come together.

Unity is the most elusive goal of all, but nothing is important than that right now.
