On a four-day trip to Beijing, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is tying American business

executives that the U.S. is dissatisfied with the state of business relations with China.

She is the first U.S. Treasury Secretary to visit China in four years, and PR's Emily

Fang has the latest.

Yellen met with American businesses that are roundtable hosted by the American Chamber

of Commerce in Beijing, right before she headed off to meet China's premier.

Yellen said she told Chinese officials the U.S. was concerned about China's use of

non-market tools, like expanded subsidies for its state-owned enterprises, as well as

barriers to market access for foreign firms.

She also said the U.S. was assessing the impact of new Chinese export controls on two

metals used in semiconductorships.

In the past year, China's detained local employees at American consultancy, Bain and Co, and

passed a new counter-espionage law that businesses say in dangers their normal operations.

The Biden administration has agreed to send a controversial weapon cluster bombs to Ukraine

to aid in its battle against Russian forces.

Strategists say the munitions could help Ukraine penetrate Russian defensive lines, but

as the NPR's Tom Bowman reports, left over cluster munitions have been known to stay

on the battlefield long after a conflict is over, posing risks to civilians.

Laos has a particular problem with the bomblets more than 50 years after they were used during

the Vietnam War.
