Advisors to former President Donald Trump are looking to dramatically

pair back the Republican Party's platform this year. As NPR's Tamara Keith

reports the committee meeting to set this agenda in mid-July but is in mid-July but will be closed to the

press which is a break with recent tradition. In a memo obtained by NPR top

Trump campaign advisors Chris La Cervita and Susie Wiles argue that the party's

commitment to voters as outlined in its platform should be clear, concise, and easily

digestible and that it should reflect former President Trump's vision for America

and avoid creating lines of attack for his opponents.

A big question is what the platform will say about the issue of abortion, but that debate won't be out in the open, as has happened in the past.

This year a source familiar says the Platform Committee will meet a week before the Convention,

and it will be closed to the press.
