The head of Russia's mercenary force, the Wagner Group, has resurfaced for the first

time since his fighters let a brief but failed weekend mutiny.

As NPR's Charles Mainz reports from Moscow, the group's leader now says Wagner had no

intention of overthrowing the Russian government.

In an 11 minute audio message posted to social media, Wagner Chief Yvgeny Progorshan

portrayed the mutiny as an act of protest, but not one threatening the Russian leadership.

Wagner fighters said Progorshan were angry, over an order that would place the mercenary

group subordinate to the Defense Ministry beginning next month, and Progorshan again

accused Russia's top generals of ordering an air strike on a Wagner-based camp killing

dozens.

Yet Progorshan said the ease of his fighters march into Russia and up towards Moscow.

Again highlighted the failures of the military leadership, Progorshan said Wagner had conducted

a quote-master class, and he'll rush his initial invasion of Ukraine should have gone.

Meanwhile, an angry Russian president, Vladimir Putin in brief, or Mark said the paramilitary

revolt failed because the entire Russian society united, and he accused organizers of

betraying their country.
