Adjust this department investigation into policing in Minneapolis released today shows

a pattern of discrimination, excessive use of force and violation of constitutional rights.

As John Collins, a Minnesota Public Radio reports the more than two year probe of the Minneapolis

Police Department was spurred by the 2020 murder of George Floyd.

In addition to patterns of racial discrimination, the federal investigation also found that

Minneapolis Police routinely violated the first amendment rights of people protesting

or journalists.

US Attorney General, Merrick Garland, says officers routinely used force, including deadly

force, without justification.

MPD officers discharge firearms at people without assessing whether the person presents

any threat, let alone a threat that would justify deadly force.

The Justice Department is working to negotiate a consent decree with the city, which will require

changes to the police department and be overseen by a federal judge.

Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the Pentagon papers revealing what presidents

had known while they pursued the Vietnam War, died to date as home in Kensington, California.

It was 92, the cause of death was pancreatic cancer, and Pierce Ron Elving has this

remembrance.

Ellsberg's disclosure of 7,000 pages of documents helped to end the longest US War of

the 20th century.
