Stocks ended the day mixed after the Federal Reserve decided not to raise interest rates

at its most recent meeting.

But as NPR's David Gurr explains, Fed policy makers forecast two more rate hikes later

this year.

The Federal Reserve had raised interest rates at each of its last 10 meetings, but this

time it decided to pause.

The Fed says that'll give it time to gauge how much progress it's made fighting high

inflation and chart its path forward.

According to the latest data on consumer and wholesale prices, inflation is getting

weaker, but it's still far from the Fed's inflation target of 2%.

There are four more Fed meetings on the calendar this year, and Fed Chair Jerome Powell says

the next one in late July is live, meaning this pause could end then.

Looking at the numbers, the Dow dropped 232 points today.

The Nasdaq was up 53 points.

White House officials are meeting with dozens of legislators from all over the country

about abortion access in their states.

As NPR's Tamar Keith reports, it comes days before the one year anniversary of the Supreme

Court's DOBS decision that reversed Roe vs. Wade.

Since DOBS v. Jackson, many states with Republican led legislators have moved to roll back

access to abortion.
