Live from NPR News in Washington. I'm Jack Spear. Egypt and Qatar say they have

received a response from Hamas to a three-staged ceasefire plan for Gaza. The news

comes a day after the UN Security Council

endorsed the plan and urged Hamas to agree to it as we are from NPR's

Michelle Kalaman. White House spokesman John Kirby wouldn't say much about the

response from Hamas only that the US is studying it as

are the mediators in Qatar in Egypt he says the goal is to get started on a three-part

plan to end the war if we can get this deal in place in phase one,

the fighting stops.

The fighting stops all across to Gaza.

That's what phase one is all about.

That's how you get the hostages out safely. And more aid into

Gaza. But phase one is a six-week ceasefire. A permanent truce would then have to

be negotiated. Secretary of State Anthony Blaken says the Israelis

assured him that they want to get this deal

across the finish line.
