split on President Biden's executive action to limit the number of migrants

who can cross the U.S. Mexico border.

NPR's Deja Walsh explains lawmakers want immigration reforms, but the parties are

far-powered on the details.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and most GOP lawmakers criticize the President's actions as

too little, too late. Johnson maintained it was a political move to show action ahead of the November election.

It's window dressing.

Everybody knows it.

If he was concerned about the border, he would have done this a long time ago.

Top Democratic leaders defended the president's action saying

after Republicans blocked a Senate bipartisan border bill twice, the president was

given no choice. But other Democrats, including members of the Congressional Hispanic

Caucus, say the President's plan goes too far and will restrict those trying

to exercise their legal right to claim asylum. The issue of border security is

expected to feature prominently in key congressional races across the country
