President Biden is urging Congress to pass the newly-brokered agreement that would raise

the nation's debt ceiling.

NPR's Windsor-Johnston reports, after weeks of contentious negotiations, the details

of the bill were released yesterday.

The deal would raise the nation's debt ceiling for the next two years.

The agreement also includes caps on federal spending.

It has to offer work requirements for some federal assistance programs and reforms to speed

up the permitting process for energy projects.

But the work is far from over.

Leaders in both parties now have to convince enough of their members to vote for the deal,

which contains provisions that lawmakers on each side of the aisle don't support.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Sunday said that he was confident he will get a majority

of his conferences' support and expects to bring the bill up for a vote on Wednesday.

A portion of an apartment building in Davenport, Iowa collapsed yesterday.

Seven people were rescued.

So far, there are no reports of fatalities.

NPR's Madhuri Andruksovich reports.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but it happened as work was being done on the

building's exterior, following reports of bricks falling from the structure earlier

in the week.
