Lawmakers are still hashing out an agreement this Memorial Day weekend to raise a debt limit

and prevent a government default.

MPR's Human Abustillo reports are proposed work requirement for social safety net programs

as a key hurdle.

Both the White House and Republican negotiators are dug in on whether to add work requirements

for able-bodied adults without dependence who rely on federal assistance programs, such

as food stamps and Medicaid.

Last month, House Republicans approved a bill that included a plan to raise the age limit

of adults who would be subject to work requirements from 50 to 55 for food stamps and Medicaid.

But the White House has also held firm against the increase.

Meanwhile Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has pushed back the so-called X-State when the

U.S. will run out of money to pay its bills without an agreement to June 5th.

The Senate's President Kamala Harris is set to make some history today.

She is to deliver the commencement address at West Point, becoming the first woman speaker

at the event in the military account of his 221-year history.

To Russia now, where authorities have launched a new criminal charges, rather new criminal

charges against jailed a Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

The new charges could keep the Kremlin's fiercest critic in jail for decades as the

Pierre Strauss maids reports were Moscow.

According to documents posted to a Moscow City court website, Navalny faces a slew of

new charges tied to alleged extremist activities and rehabilitation of Nazi ideology.
