Kenyan police officers, a small number, are now deployed to Haiti.

NPR's Aider Parolter reports this coincides with Kenyan President William Ruto's

state visit to the U.S. this week.

Kenyan President William Ruto is in Washington for a three-day visit. week. National Government officials in Haiti told NPR they expected Kenyan police to deploy as

Ruto was visiting Washington. A small advanced team did arrive in Haiti this week, but the

Mammy Herald reports they found there wasn't enough equipment nor supplies for the immediate deployment of additional forces.

And that full deployment may be further delayed.

Haiti is in free fall, its capital has been seized by gangs and newly appointed transitional government

says it needs an international force to help bring order to the country so they can plan for elections.

The European Union plans to use profits from Russia's Central Bank assets

to fund Ukraine and his military.

As NPR's Bill Chappell reports, those assets were frozen due to Russia's war in Ukraine.
