Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. Canadian voters are heading to the polls today

for a snap federal election amid concerns about the ongoing trade war with the U.S.

Katie Toth has the story.

Cost of living, inflation, health care, and housing have consistently been top issues here.

A lot of it is with the economy.

Shannon Young voted for the liberals, headed by current Prime Minister Mark Carney.

She fears conservatives might cut dental care and doesn't like the way their

leader Pierre Pauliev talks about the LGBT community. It kind of reminded me a little bit of Trump.

Every major party wants to stand up to the U.S. president. But at an advance poll last week,

Drake McNeil said Trump would not impact his vote at all.

This is a Canadian election.

He voted conservative.
