Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Kurova Kulman in Sudan, the rebel paramilitary

group known as the RSF, says it has agreed with three-day halt to hostilities with the

Sudanese military junta.

More than 400 people have been killed in about a week of heavy conflict.

That includes one American.

The BBC's Andrew Harding has more.

The ceasefire, if it holds, would coincide with the Muslim E-toler day this weekend, marking

the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

There has been no immediate comment so far from Sudan's regular army, which is fighting

the RSF, the two groups, vying for the upper hand, in a power struggle that has devastated

cartoon and other cities, particularly in the western region of Darfur.

Hundreds of civilians have been killed, and many thousands remain trapped by the fighting,

amid a deepening humanitarian crisis.

For now, civilians in the capital continue to report heavy artillery and gunfire.

The U.S. is getting ready for a possible evacuation of U.S. embassy workers in Sudan.

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says the Pentagon has moved more

U.S. troops and material to that African region.

Canada's Minister for Families says if the abortion pill is banned in the U.S., Ottawa

will step up.

As Dan Carpenshuk reports, that means Canada is prepared to offer Americans access to the

common abortion medication.
