Today's the deadline to file your tax return.

NPR's God Horsley reports the IRS has already received more than 90 million returns and

processed more than 62 million tax refunds.

The IRS is investing heavily this year to improve customer service and tax enforcement

after years of under-investing in the agency.

Democrats in Congress agreed to spend $80 billion over the next decade to replace antiquated

computer systems and hire more people.

IRS officials say the early results are already apparent.

Average wait times on IRS phone lines have been cut 85 percent from a year ago, thanks

to an additional 5,000 telephone staffers.

The agency also plans to hire more auditors and attorneys to make sure more people pay

the taxes they owe.

The administration says that extra enforcement effort will be narrowly focused on people

making more than $400,000 a year.

The IRS has extended the tax deadlines for certain people in several states with federally

declared disasters.

The deadlines are delayed from May to October.

States range from Alabama to California.

A grand jury in Akron, Ohio has declined to charge any of the eight officers involved

in the killing of Black, Motorist, Jalen Walker last summer.

Police say he fired one shot at them during a car chase and then fled his vehicle.
