A near total ban on abortion in the state of Arizona that rely on an 1860s law is being allowed

to take effect though a number of elected officials including the attorney general

and Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs are coming out against it.

This week Arizona Supreme Court allowed the measure which would ban abortion even in cases of rape and incest to proceed.

Hobbs in an interview with NPR today promised to work to get it overturned.

It absolutely can be repealed and should be repealed.

This is a devastating ban and I've been calling for its repeal for the last year since I got into office. I renewed

that call once this opinion was issued.

Meanwhile Democrats within the Biden administration today launched an ad

campaign on the abortion rights debate

blaming such bans on former President Donald Trump, whose appointees to the Supreme Court

helped overturn Roe versus Wade.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has offered one of his biggest critics, one who has taken steps

to oust him a leadership role in the lower chamber.
