Live from NPR News, in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. President Joe Biden spoke by phone today with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

saying further U.S support for the war in Gaza depends on Israel announcing specific steps to address civilian harm.

But while critical of Israel's approaching Gaza, NPR's Greg Myri says the White House stopped

short of saying it would halt arm shipments to Israel or what a change in U.S. policy might look like.

Biden has become increasingly critical of Israel's war effort, and these are really his most

pointed comments yet. I'll just add a couple caveats.

Biden didn't say what actions he might take if Israel stays on the same course

and Biden gave no indication that he's retreating from his proposal to send 14 billion dollars in fresh military

assistance. Biden also called strikes on humanitarian aid workers like the one that killed

seven staffers with the World Central Kitchen unacceptable and he called for an immediate

ceasefire. Former President Donald Trump meanwhile had more tough love for

Israel today over its war against Hamas as NPR's Franco-ordonius reports Trump

says Israel is losing the PR war.

The former president has pledged support for Israel, but he said he was disappointed about how

the war was continuing as the number of civilians being killed grows higher.

In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt,

Trump criticized Israel's decision to release footage of its offensive actions.

The other thing is, I hate, they put out tapes all the time every night they're releasing tapes of a building falling down

They shouldn't be releasing tapes like that they're doing that's why they're losing the PR war they Israel is absolutely losing the PR war.
