President Biden now says he will travel to Baltimore next week to meet with elected officials

and emergency workers following this

week's collapse of the key bridge.

The administration has already allocated $60 million to help restore the collapse bridge.

And today, Transportation Secretary Pete Buda Judge told NPR the rebuilding of the nearly 50-year-old

structure will include an update.

So if you might imagine, the way we build bridges in the 2020s is not the same as we did

in the 1970s, and we need to learn for the sake of the

20 30s 40s and 50s all of the lessons of what happened here in March of

2024. The bridge gave way in the early hours of Tuesday morning after nearly

thousand foot long container ship that had lost power slammed into a key

support. For construction workers on the bridge at the time are missing and presumed

dead the bodies of two other workers were recovered.

The State Department says it is imposing visa bans on some officials from Hong Kong because

of a crackdown on freedoms in the Chinese ruled territory.
