Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. Canada has announced new tariffs on roughly

20 billion worth of U.S. goods. They'll go into effect Thursday. As NPR's Jackie Northam

explains, the move is in retaliation to President

Trump's imposing global levies on steel and aluminum earlier today. The country is the biggest

foreign supplier of steel and aluminum to the U.S. Canadian finance minister Dominic LeBlanc

says President Trump's decision to slap 25 percent tariffs on the metals, creates disruption and disorder into the trading partnership,

and raises the costs of everyday goods for Canadian and American households.

We will not stand idly by while our iconic steel and aluminum industries are being unfairly targeted.

Along with aluminum and steel, the new Canadian tariffs will include computers, sporting goods,

tools, and cast iron products.

LeBlanc says Canada could retaliate again if Trump imposes even more levies on Canadian medals.
