Although there's been a lot of progress in clearing roads, many residents in the San Bernardino

Mountains in Southern California are still trapped in their homes because of the massive amounts

of snow that have fallen over the last week.

From Member Station KQED in San Francisco, Keith Mizoguchi reports.

Officials in San Bernardino County say crews have been working day and night and a vast

majority of the roads are now possible.

But KDK Meade, a resident of Lake Arrowhead, says all that excess snow, sometimes as high

as 10 feet, has made it impossible for people to leave their house.

It's literally solid ice.

So what we need now is these hand teams that are trying to go in and get people who are

behind these giant berms.

Many local residents have been gathering supplies and groceries for their neighbors.

And the county has even been using helicopters to fly food and other supplies to residents

in mountain communities.

The FBI says it is investigating the recent kidnapping of four Americans in Mexico.

The Americans were kidnapped on Friday shortly after crossing the border.

The FBI says the four Americans crossed into Matamoros, Mexico, which is located just

across the border from Brownsville, Texas.

The Bureau says they were traveling in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates
