A Coleman, the National Weather Service says two powerful winter storms are pouring heavy

precipitation from coast to coast.

California is getting rain, snow, and wind that will persist until the weekend.

But the upper Midwest and the Northeastern are getting significant icing and blizzard

conditions.

NPR's David Schaper reports about three-quarters of a million customers are out of power in

Michigan and Illinois alone.

Heavy snow, strong winds, rain, and ice are making travel treacherous, if not impossible

across many parts of the country.

Stretches of highway from Arizona to Wyoming and into the Dakotas were shut down because

of dangerous driving conditions.

As forecasts called for up to two feet of snow in some places, it wind gusts near 60 miles

an hour.

At Minneapolis and St. Paul, cities well accustomed to harsh winter weather.

Officials say they're bracing for what is likely to be one of the largest snowstorms in

Minnesota history.

More than half of all of the flights into and out of the Minneapolis airport were canceled.

At large numbers of flights were delayed or canceled into and out of Denver, Detroit,

Chicago, Milwaukee, and several other cities.
