The U.S. has for the first time confronted China directly after shooting down the balloon

Beijing sent over the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with China's top diplomat

in Germany and says he told Wang Yi that such an irresponsible act must never again occur.

China denies the balloon was for spying.

Separately Blinken says he also warned Wang of consequences should China supply material

support to Russia in its war against Ukraine.

We've been watching this very closely.

To date, we have seen Chinese companies and of course in China there's really no distinction

between private companies and the state.

We have seen them provide non-lethal support to Russia for use in Ukraine.

The concern that we have now is based on information we have that they're considering providing

lethal support and we've made very clear to them that that caused a serious problem for

us and in our relationship.

Blinken heads to Turkey today to discuss how Washington can help with earthquake recovery.

Tomorrow President Biden leaves for Poland to commemorate one year of the war in Ukraine.
