Live from NPR News in Washington, on Corvo Coleman, thousands of people gathered at Michigan

State University's campus last night to honor the lives of three students killed in a mass

shooting earlier this week.

Five more students were critically injured.

Students were encouraged to grieve and look out for one another as they continued to process

the shooting that left three dead and five others hospitalized.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, in MSU alum, spoke at the gathering.

I will do everything in my power to make sure that those we've lost are not just numbers

or stories to be forgotten a week or month from now.

Whitmer said the state is in a unique position to take action to save lives.

Legislative Democrats say they're working on proposals.

Two people have been arrested after a deadly shooting yesterday at a mall in El Paso, Texas.

One person was killed and three others were injured.

Police insist there is no further danger to the public.

The shopping mall is next to a Walmart that was the scene of a mass shooting in 2019.

A white government who is a white supremacist killed 23 people then, saying that he wanted

to target Latinos.

That government has pleaded guilty to scores of federal charges.

Residents of East Palestine, Ohio are demanding answers in the fiery and toxic trained derailment

that caused hundreds of people to evacuate this month.
