A coalman, a US fighter plane shot down an unidentified object over Michigan late yesterday

afternoon.

It fell into Lake Huron.

That's the third object the US has shot down in three days.

On Saturday, another one was brought down over Canada, and one more was shot down Friday,

just off Northeast Alaska.

Melissa Dalton is the Assistant Defense Secretary for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs.

She says officials are examining those and the Chinese spine balloon shot down off South

Carolina.

We are at work now, recovering the degree to better understand the certainly the capabilities

of the surveillance balloon from the TRC, but also the nature of these unidentified objects

to better understand where they surveillance objects, what was their purpose, what are

their capabilities, and look forward to sharing more as we learn more in the coming days.

The object that was shot down and fell into Lake Huron yesterday had been flying at about

20,000 feet.

It was ruled a danger to civilian aircraft.

A week after a devastating earthquake killed more than 33,000 people in Turkey and Syria,

rescuers are racing against time to find people still alive under the rubble.

NPR's Peter Kenyon reports at least one survivor was rescued early today.

In the town of Islajia near Ghazihan Tepp, a rescue crew managed to free a 40-year-old woman

trapped in the remains of a collapsed five-story building.
