Live from NPR News and Washington, I'm Child Snider. Military units in Alaska are involved

in the recovery of an unknown object that President Biden ordered shot down yesterday.

It came down off the state's northern coast.

NPR's Windsor-Johnston reports its nature remains unclear.

White House spokesman John Kirby says the Pentagon has not confirmed whether the object

was a balloon, but it was traveling at an altitude that made it a potential threat to

civilian flights.

Out of an abundance of caution and the recommendation of the Pentagon, President Biden ordered the

military to down the object.

And they did.

And it came inside our territorial waters.

Kirby says the military is working to recover the debris.

He also said the object was roughly the size of a small car, much smaller than the Chinese

surveillance balloon that the military shot down over the Atlantic Ocean last weekend.

The FBI search of former Vice President Mike Pence's Indiana home is said to have lasted

roughly five hours.

Officials say they took an additional classified document.

And Peter Trian Lucas reports a search amounts to the FBI doing its due diligence after

Pence's lawyers discovered some sensitive documents at the home last month, but that

this search may not be the last.

Pence has an office here in DC.
