Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Giles Snyder, the derailment of a freight train on the

border of Ohio and Pennsylvania sparked a massive fire last night.

There have been evacuations in a town northwest of Pittsburgh as Imperial State Misseditch

reports.

East Palestine interim village manager Tracy Spratt says emergency crews are working to

contain the fire.

She says no injuries or deaths have been reported so far.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is evacuating some residents in East Palestine

and telling others nearby to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible.

Officials say hazmat crews are monitoring air quality and have not found any hazardous

materials.

In a statement issued early this morning, Norfolk Southern says they mobilize teams immediately

and are on site coordinating closely with local first responders.

It remains unclear what the train was carrying or what caused the derailment.

Secretary of State Antony Blinkin says when conditions permit he will travel to China,

but for now, his diplomatic visit to Beijing that had been planned for this weekend is

off because of that Chinese balloon that was found floating over Montana.

We are going to remain engaged with the PRC as this ongoing issue is resolved.
