Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is postponing his trip to China.

That's after the Pentagon spotted a Chinese balloon violating US sovereignty.

NPR's Michelle Kellen reports the Chinese claim it's a research aircraft that won a

stray.

Secretary Blinken says he called the top Chinese official to protest what he calls a clear

violation of US sovereignty and a quote, irresponsible act.

And that the PRC's decision to take this action on the use of my plan visit is detrimental

to the substantive discussions that we were prepared to have.

He says countries around the world want to see the US and China manage their competition

responsibly.

And that's what he wanted to talk about in Beijing.

Now Blinken says the number one job is to get the Chinese spy balloon out of US air space.

China expressed regret over what it says is a stray research balloon though US officials

have dismissed that explanation.

The Treasury Department today says it is making more electric vehicles, including some SUVs

made by Tesla Ford and General Motors, eligible for tax credits.

It was much as $7,500 under new classification procedures.

The revised standards coming on the heels of calls from the major automakers, which have

been lobbying the administration to change vehicle definitions to allow higher price vehicles

to qualify.
