Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. President Trump campaigned on the promise of

strict enforcement of immigration laws. Now his administration is touting the latest arrest

numbers of those suspected

of being in the country without authorization. For MPR's Manabistillo. The Immigration and Customs

Enforcement Agency said they arrested almost 1,000 people yesterday, an escalation from the daily

numbers last week. Enforcement operations were seen in cities like Chicago, where members of the

Trump administration were on the ground

themselves. Borders are Tom Homan and acting deputy attorney general, Amel Bovi, traveled to Chicago to

oversee the efforts. On average, the Biden administration arrested over 200 people per day last year,

though exact levels increased and decreased over time.

Trump officials tapped in other federal law enforcement agencies such as the FBI,

U.S. Marshals, and the Drug Enforcement Administration to assist in the arrests.

Hamas has agreed to release three more Israeli hostages, and Israel is allowing displaced Palestinians

to return to North Gaza for the first time since the start of the war.

NPR's Daniel Estrin reports.

Israel and Hamas say they have resolved a dispute involving an Israeli hostage whom

Hamas did not release last week as Israel had expected.

Hamas has now agreed to free that hostage, plus two more, on Thursday,

and Hamas will release three additional hostages on Saturday as previously scheduled.

In total, six hostages will be freed this week, and Israel will release Palestinian prisoners
