Rock music legend David Crosby has died, a founding member of the birds and Crosby

Stowe's Nash in Young.

He died surrounded by members of his family after what was reported today to be a long

illness.

He was 81 years old.

St. Piers, Eric Westerville reports Crosby influenced scores of singer-songwriters and

helped shape Rock's voice in the 60s and 70s.

The two-time rock and roll hall of fame and duck-dee is best known for his work with Crosby Stowe's

in Nash, a group that sometimes included Neil Young.

He told NPR the first time the trio sang together, they all realized they had something special.

As soon as we sang one of Stephen's songs, soon as Nash won in the top part, we said

don't.

Yeah, okay, that's what I'll be doing for a while.

Crosby battled heroin and cocaine addiction before finally kicking the drugs in 1986 while

serving time in the Texas prison, despite health problems Crosby in recent years continued

to make new music and tour with groups of younger musicians, Eric Westerville and P.R. News.
