Live from NPR News in Washington. I'm Jack Spear. House Oversight Committee Republicans met this morning to hold

President Biden's son Hunter in contempt of Congress. The younger Biden

insisted he would only testify publicly about his foreign business dealings, but the GOP ordered him to testify in private.

The hearing was as chaotic as they get.

Hunter Biden even made a surprise appearance in the audience. A characteristic

Republicans insist on the committee's right to set the terms for how folks appear as

Hunter Biden's attorney says the whole ordeal is a surrogate to attack the president.

Now if a contempt vote passes the full house, prosecutors would decide whether to file criminal

charges.
