0:00.0	Welcome to the Beat. I'm Jason Johnson and for Ari Melburgh. These are live pictures of the Tennessee House floor, where debate is underway over an extraordinary and controversial push from Republicans in the State House.
0:13.3	They're voting to expel Democrats today because they broke House to quorum rules. One of them, Justin Jones, has already been ousted.
0:20.8	At this moment, the debate is
0:22.1	over a second Democrat, Gloria Johnson. And a vote is expected soon, teeing up the fight over the
0:27.8	third Democrat, Justin Pearson. Republicans going after the Democrats for using a bullhorn on the
0:33.7	House floor as they called for tougher gun laws. They did so in defiance of Republicans
0:38.9	who wouldn't recognize their right to speak. All this comes after last week's deadly elementary
0:45.0	school shooting that killed six in Nashville. This is just a third vote to expel a Tennessee
0:50.2	State House member since the Civil War, an indicator of how rare and critics argue
0:56.2	reasonably extreme this move is. Protests are currently rocking the state capital.
