There will be a new left-wing party in the UK, and soon.

That's the message of Pamela Fitzpatrick. She's one of the directors of Collective,

a group that coordinated resources for independent candidates at the 2024 election. Now,

Collective is advocating for making a new and explicitly left-wing party, but slightly confusingly, there already is another new party.

Jamie Driscoll is the former mayor of the north of Tyne, the area between Newcastle and the border with Scotland.

He's already launched a new party called Majority. It's been sourcing its policies through people's assemblies,

and while its political values are explicitly anti-racist and pro-public ownership,

it uses the language of participatory democracy

that it says is more likely to cut through

than what it calls the standard left-wing tub-thumping.

Shockat Adam hasn't got a new party, and for the time being remains uncertain about joining one,

but he is already a sitting MP, representing Lester South as an independent.

For clarity, he wasn't backed by collective in his election campaign,

but he is in regular contact with Jeremy Corbyn in Parliament

as part of the Independent Alliance group of MPs.
