In a world that seems increasingly bleak for the left, one project has given solace to millions

worldwide.

For the last 13 years, a feminist anti-state socialist revolution has been taking place

in the most difficult of conditions in Rojoba in northeast Syria.

They fought ISIS, ultimately defeating them at the siege of Kobani, and establishing new forms of justice, autonomy and peace in their war-ravaged country.

Since then, the slow work of revolutionary transformation has continued.

Despite the constant aggression from ISIS sleeper cells,

the local great power, Turkey, and its many proxies in Syria. But what might happen now that the

Assad regime, which brutalized Syrians for decades, has fallen and been replaced with Hayat's

Tarir al-Sham, a group of former Salafi jihadis now eagerly embraced by the West.

Can the revolution continue?

And then a few weeks back, the leader of some of the Kurdish movement in Turkey,

Abdullah Odhjulam, who has been imprisoned now for 26 years, called on the PKK, the Kurdish Workers Party, to disband.

To understand all this, the revolution, its achievements, its adversaries and its future,

I spoke to Elif Saracan, a writer, organiser and activist of the Kurdish women's movement.

She told me about what the revolution in Rojjjava had already achieved, what the collapse

of the Assad regime meant for its progress in the future, and what Odhilan's call really means.
