Welcome to Navarra FM. My name is Eleanor Penny. It's been over 15 years since academic and Marxist cultural critic Mark Fisher wrote that

it's easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the end of capitalism.

In the intervening years, the end of the world has crawled horribly into view.

And the collapse of living standards and the rise of precarious work means that not only

can we maybe imagine the end of capitalism, we might be able to see the monstrous birth

of something arguably worse happening right under our noses. Industrial capitalism is being reorganised.

The digital economy and the service economy are on the rise. The bond markets reigns supreme,

the infrastructure of social life is sold to BlackRock and then rented back to people

at twice the price. So, some people are asking, what if this isn't just the latest evolution of capitalism, but

something different altogether?

Call it post-capitalism, call it techno-feudalism, or possibly call it neo-feudalism in the

words of writer and academic Jody Dean.

Jody Dean teaches political, feminist and media theory in Geneva, New York.

She has written and edited 13 books, including The Communist Horizon and Crowds and Party.

Her latest book is Capital's Grave, Neofudalism and the New Class Struggle. She argues that the system that organizes the modern world economy is more comparable to
