| 0:00.0 | All right, Brian, to wrap up today's show here on the Irish Breakdown podcast, brought to you by Fanduel. |
| 0:21.4 | We're talking about some key position battles. |
| 0:23.4 | Now, earlier this show, we talked about what we know about offense and defense. |
| 0:26.4 | We talked about what we didn't know about the offense and defense. |
| 0:28.8 | But one common theme that we talked about throughout this entire show is this roster is exceptionally talented. |
| 0:34.9 | And that's been a common theme that we've talked about, not just today, not just yesterday, but really since post-November 29th, that this roster |
| 0:44.3 | is exceptionally loaded. Now, within that, there are going to be some position battles that are |
| 0:49.6 | going to happen this offseason. And it starts tomorrow morning when they get out there for spring |
| 0:55.8 | practice. So very interested to see what some of these position battles are going to pan out |
| 1:00.5 | to. Obviously, it's not going to be as high octane as last year when it's who's going to be |
| 1:04.2 | the starting quarterback at Notre Dame, but still ones that are important. |
| 1:09.2 | And some of these are that we're going to talk about aren't even for like starting jobs. Some of them are. Some of them are, okay, yeah, the starters to be determined, but also who's going to be number two, who's going to be number three? We have a pretty good idea who Buba Cartray, that Buba Cartierryor is going to be starting, you know, left end or you know what I mean, But like, okay, but who plays when Bubikars is not playing? |
| 1:30.6 | Who's going to be that next guy in? |
| 1:32.2 | We all have a sense of, okay, Leonard Morris is starting boundary corner, |
| 1:36.6 | but okay, who's going to be the next guy in? |
| 1:39.0 | I mean, those are all questions we're going to have. |
| 1:42.0 | But and then honestly, Trev, I just sent you a note. |
| 1:44.7 | We should probably also talk about some potential special teams battles that are going |
| 1:48.9 | to be raging this spring as well. |
| 1:52.0 | So look, it already started. |
| 1:55.2 | The position battle started in January when they got back and through all the workouts. |
| 1:59.9 | But now we get to put pads on. And now you get to find out who are the real football players and who are the half-speed heroes. You know what I mean? Who are the prep team All-Americans? You know what I mean? Who are the guys that look great when there's no contact? We've all seen these receivers that go to these seven-on-sevents, knowing they can't get hit, making acrobatic catches and just sacrificing their bodies. And then the pads come on, and they're like, eh. You know, like they want no part of that leap and catch over the middle like they were in seven-on-seven because now Don Schuller's able to put his helmet right into his freaking ribs. You know what I mean? Like they don't want that now. And so this is when you really start to separate the guys. I've seen quarterbacks that just, man, they're standing back there to seven on seven looking like a million bucks. And all of a sudden the pass rush starts coming at him. And it's like, blow the whistle, blow the, you know, they're trying to get rid of the ball super fast. Now we separate the real ones from the ones that aren't. Hopefully it's like, okay, first team's real, second team's real, third team's real. And sometimes I'm like, yeah, that guy faded real quick when the pads came on. And that's what I love about this time of year. And really the first one comes down to is there is a major battle at wide receiver beyond. We know Jordan Faison is going to play. We know Jaden Greathouse is going to play. We could spend time talking about, well, is Great House going to do this or that? We've done a whole lot of that. We'll do more of that down the road. But we know they're both going to play. |
