| 0:00.0 | Brian, we're rolling here on the Irish Breakdown podcast, |
| 0:19.9 | Brought you by our friends over at Fandu. We have the Friday free for all mailbag going on. You guys have been submitting some really good questions here so far. Let's keep it rolling with Moneybag Jake. This is a lot better than, I'm glad that you gave him this idea, Trip, because this is a whole lot better than what his name previously was. |
| 0:54.3 | It just didn't fit with the avatar. This is much better. Love it. Moneybag, Jake. I love it, man. If you could see into the future to the Wisconsin game, who is back for kick return and punt return. I would imagine punt return. This is just a projection. I'm not giving away any secrets. I don't know that this is the case. |
| 0:56.0 | I don't know that this has been decided. |
| 0:57.0 | This is just my opinion. |
| 1:15.1 | I think the punt returner will be Jordan Faison early in the season. And I think the kick returner will be Bubba Frazier. That's my prediction. So. Yeah. I like that. Punt returner, I'm deaf. Again, not Intel. I'm confident in saying it's Jordan Faison. I think he kind of locked down that role last year. |
| 1:24.9 | And then kick return, I think Bubba Frazier will be one of them. I mean, shoot, one of them is not even able to practice right now. I think Javian Osborne could, depending on what his fall looks like. |
| 1:26.2 | Jonas Walton could be one of them. |
| 1:28.7 | But I think Bubba Fraser is probably the leader right now. |
| 1:45.5 | When it comes to Jordan Faison, part of me says, hey, if he's your number one receiver, I don't know that I want him back to returning punts. I would kind of counter that and say, if they use the rotation the way that they should, then I think that adds even more credence to letting Jordan be your punt returner, where he doesn't have to play 50 plus snaps in a game. |
| 1:49.4 | Now he's a little bit more crisp. He can take those shots and you keep him as your top |
| 1:54.2 | punt returner. I would say that, that actually, even if he is your number one guy, if you're |
| 1:59.9 | able to take 10 snaps a game off of his workload, |
| 2:03.0 | and he's only playing 40 snaps instead of, you know, 50 plus snaps, |
| 2:08.1 | I think that makes the case for him being a guy that you could still keep back there. |
| 2:12.8 | Because I'm not opposed to having your top playmaker be a returner, |
| 2:17.3 | but if you have a younger player that's maybe not getting as much action and he's every bit as dynamic as your starter, if that guy's getting enough touches on offense, hey, hey, why not, right? I mean, that's kind of what way I look at it, Triff. But if your number one guy is really dynamic in that area, I mean, I'm not taking Rocket Ismail off as my punt returner or Ricky Waters off my punt return just because they're my starters and top go-to players because they're elite at that. But let's just say hypothetically that Jordan's an elite punt returner, but Bubba Frazier's also, boy, this guy's special there. And you want to take some of that pounding off of Jordan because you're like, he's going to be playing 40 plus naps a game for 15, 16 games. We don't want to take that shot. That's fine. I don't know that I would do that in the opener, though. You know, I would want that certainty of the veteran returning kicks. Let's get off to a strong start. and maybe if you're able to blow out Wisconsin or if you're able to, or even not blow them out, just get a comfortable lead on them, three plus score lead in the second half. If you're beating Rice convincingly, then maybe let Bubba Fraser or, you know, some of the other talented young players, like maybe Dallas Golden is back there, you know, somebody like that. And I say, okay, give that guy a shot. And maybe then you just less chance that Jordan gets injured because you're going to need him all year. But at the same time, the counter argument is if Bubba's playing on offense and he's taking snaps on offense and if Milan Graham's taking snaps on and you're able to use more of rotation where we don't see a lot of this. |
| 3:43.2 | This is snaps that Jordan Faison played in games last year. |
| 3:47.2 | 56, 66, 54, 51, 61, 64, 65, 66. |
| 3:54.4 | And this is for a team that blew out almost everybody they play. |
| 3:56.8 | That's way too many snaps. |
| 3:57.9 | I'd watch games or Jordan Faison and run a go route or Malachi Fields to run a go route or a post route. And most teams, they just peel off into the sideline, walk back, catch their breath, catch their legs, and then get back to the coach. And then a player two later, they're back in there because somebody subbed in for them. We'd have to watch them, Trev, jog all the way flipping back to the |
